My Craft Room the Supply Shop

So, I have this slight problem due to an overload of creative ideas that constantly run through my head. I purchase lots of art and crafts supplies and barely use them. I few weeks ago, I won a cash prize at work and I wanted to buy a button-making machine. I mentioned it to my husband and he said that was fine as long as I used it because I always tend to buy things that I “really need” i.e. jewelry making tools or my sewing machine, and I tend to use them only once. It's not like I don’t like what I buy after I’ve used it a few times, it’s that I get inspired by something else or discover a new art medium and I have to buy that too. Luckily, I’m a great bargain shopper and get my craft supplies for a good deal; however, it’s not a good deal when all these supplies are just sitting around, taking up space, and not being used.

In conclusion, I’ve decide to start using craft supplies and equipment I have in my craft room and stop buying stuff unless I truly do need it. That means no button-making machine. Sad face.

I’m proud to say that I am holding on strong to this commitment and finally competed a project today! I purchased a felt project kit at Barnes and Nobles a few years ago on sale (see I am a bargain shopper) and used it to make my friend Maria a soccer theme pouch. Maria loves soccer. I had the idea of making her this soccer pouch long ago and the pouch came out great especially for being the first one I’ve made. Though, I did have some trouble with the zipper. Not only did I use the felt kit but also the “Soccer is Fun” patch and a soccer button, items that were just collecting dust in my craft room. Not only am I using my supplies I’m starting projects that I’ve wanted to complete long ago. Go me!

Now, what’s next? Off to my craft room!

Bloody Valentine Invitations

I made these Bloody Valentine invitations for my book club meeting next month. I got the month of February to choose a book and I chose Outside Valentine by Liza Ward.

How to make Bloody Valentine Invitations

Supplies:
red paper
thick junk mail flyer or any cardstock paper
alphabet stamps
black ink
red paint
paintbrush
scissors
plastic bags

1. Get a thick junk mail flyer or cardstock paper, fold it in half, and cut out a heart.

2. Now, you have a heart template; use it to trace your hearts onto red paper. Cut out your hearts.

3. Use alphabet rubber stamps to stamp on your message onto your hearts. Let the ink dry.

4. I suggest wearing an old t-shirt or an apron for this next step. Place your heart over a few plastic bags so you don’t get paint on your table. Wet your paintbrush then dip it into red paint. Use your finger to flick the hairs on the brush upward towards your heart invitation; this will cause the paint to splatter onto the invitation, giving it a spattered blood look to it.

5. Let the paint dry.

6. Add your meeting or party information on the back then add more splattered blood on it, if you like.

You can also use the splattered blood method on Halloween invitations too.

January's Book

As I had mentioned, I’m in a book club called, The Bookies. This month’s book is A Collection of One-Night Stands, My Horizontal Life by Chelsea Handler. This author is also the talk show host of Chelsea Lately even though I have never watched her show. I’m almost done reading the book on my nook that my husband got me for Christmas. It’s a funny book and I sometimes find myself blushing due to the sexual encounters Chelsea goes though as well as the sexual jokes. January’s meeting will be pajama party themed with breakfast food on January 23rd. I still don’t know what to make for the meeting, so if anyone has any breakfast food ideas I would really appreciate it.

Belle, Puppy Education Graduate

Yesterday, Belle my 9-month year old dog graduated from puppy training class! I am so proud since I had my reservations whether she was going to graduate at first, since she wouldn’t listen to a word I said. Now, she knows how to sit, down, stay, leave it, shake (with both paws), and turn left and turn right. In March, she will be going back to school at PetSmart for intermediate class. I think it is important to put any dog, especially at an early age, through puppy training classes because it avoids disasters in the home and better communication between you and your dog. I’ve heard too many stories of dogs being taken to the pound to be put to sleep because their owners didn’t take the time to train their pets so they won't destroyed their home. I’m glad my husband and I put Belle into puppy training classes and we get so excited watching her learn you tricks. Graduations Belle!

I'm a Blog Lady

One of my new years resolutions was to make a blog. Done because as you see here it is! What makes this accomplishment so much worthy is that my crafty/blog buddy Sarah, from OH MY DEER, included me in her Favorite Blog Ladies today on her blog! I feel very honored. Thank you Sarah!

My Book Club

I have been in a book club named The Bookies for over a year now and not only have I made new friends but also been introduced to new authors.

I would love to share with you how The Bookies book club works and maybe you'll like to start one of your own. If you're a bookworm like me, keep an eye out! I will be having monthly book giveaways donated by The Bookies.

This is how the book club works. We read the book chosen for the month, we meet on the last Sunday of that month at 7 p.m. at the person's house that choose the book for that particular month, and we discuss the book after dinner. However, we have gotten a bit more creative since we first began our book club. We now make invitations based on the theme of our books, we have themed dinners, we sometimes have contests, and at the end of every meeting we take a group picture with the book we read. On our birthday we get a $10 gift card from Barnes & Nobles, which everyone pitched in for.

This picture is from our monster mask contest for October's book club.

Book Club Rules
  • Respect each other and each others opinions. Do not verbally attack anyone or tell them that their opinion is stupid! We are all different.
  • You MUST read the chosen book of the month
  •  Discussion meetings will be two hours long, and we will meet on the same day each month.
  • It is the discussion leaders' responsibility to remind everyone of the upcoming meeting and what to bring.
  • No kids allowed! This is a time for us to get away, relax and enjoy ourselves.
  • LET'S HAVE LOADS OF FUN!!
