DIY Bobs Burgers’ Linda Belcher Footprint Art

Alriiight! First, I would like to wish my dear friend and partner in crime in co-hosting Bee Creative Swaps, a very Happy Happy early Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful birthday on your actual birthday, Emily!

I decided not to participate in the Animation Celebration Swap that Emily and I are currently hosting. I wasn’t sure if I would have the time or energy to make goodies with my due date being in October. I did, however, still wanted to make Emily something special for her birthday based on her favorite animated show - Bobs Burgers.

This is the Bobs Burgers inspired birthday gift, Lil and I sent Emily. Condiments and fake burger not included.

Emily had included this Bobs Burgers’ cross stitch in her swap mosaic and I knew right away that I wanted to make it for her. I contacted the maker of the cross stitch pattern, StephXStitch, and I emailed her since she no longer sold the pattern on Etsy. Luckily, she was nice enough to sell the pattern to me. Thank you Steph! It was a very easy pattern to follow and I’m happy with the outcome.

I’m not a big fan of unfinished wooden hoops, so I painted the hoop lime green. The lime green worked out perfectly because it’s one of Emily’s favorite colors and it’s the color of the Bobs Burgers building.

The hamburger socks, I found at Joann’s. They were the perfect little extra to go along with this themed gift.

Okay, now to the fun part…Lil’s Linda Belcher’s Footprint Art.

Supplies:
A foot (lol),
Yellow cardstock,
White, Red, Orange, Black, Green, Yellow, Brown, and Pink Paint,
Paint Brushes,
Water,
Pencil (not pictured).
Paper towel and wipes for clean up
Sharpie Markers

Step 1: Do this part on the floor. It makes it easier to get a better print of your child’s foot. Paint the heel and a little past the middle of the foot white (Linda’s face), the rest of the midfoot red (Linda’s shirt), and toes orange (burgers).

Step 2: Let the footprint completely dry. Lil wanted to make another print with her other foot. That’s why we have two footprints pictured.

Step 3: Lightly sketch Linda with a pencil. I pinned a lot of images of Linda on Pinterest to make sure I drew her correctly. Don’t forget to draw her signature red eyeglasses and one of her sayings, like "ALRIIIIGHT!" You can always change the toes into wine glasses instead of burgers. Perfect for someone who needs, I mean, likes wine.

Step 4: Paint Linda. I used thin paintbrushes for the majority of this part, especially for the inside of the burgers. You can always use markers instead of painting her.

The Linda Belcher footprint is my favorite part of Emily’s gift for three reasons. First, it’s my original idea. I didn’t see it on Pinterest or copy it from someone else. Though, I bet these past three years of making footprint and handprint art with Lil was helpful in coming up with the concept. Second, the idea was all based on making a Linda print from Lil’s footprint, so I’m glad she was a part of this project. Now, Lil wants me to finish the other footprint for us to keep at home. I think I’ll add the quote, “Raising you kids is a two parent, two bottles of wine a night kind of job” quote instead. Perfect for this soon to be mother of two. Lastly, Linda Belcher is Emily’s favorite Bobs Burgers character.

Emily received her early birthday package yesterday and she loved it. She especially loved the Linda footprint Lil made with the burger toes.

I hope you enjoyed this Bobs Burgers themed post. Now, I’m hungry and want a burger. In and Out sounds good.

See You Next Year / Day 5 of Creative Christmas

People keep saying, “See you next year!” and it sounds unreal and weird to me. When they say it I literally feel like their saying I won’t see them for a whole year, even though I know what they really mean.

I have so much more to do before this year is over. Too late now! Tomorrow is a new year and here I am still trying to share my Twelve Days of Creative Christmas gifts I made for family and friends and trying to write a cover letter for a possible job in hopes of a career change for the new year, a goal I had hoped to had achieved this year. Like prepaid cell phone minutes rolling over when unused, many of my 2012 goals will be rolling over to 2013. However, instead of having yearly goals I’ll be taking baby steps and spreading them throughout the year, one goal or more a month.

For now, here’s another creative Christmas gift I made. Enjoy, and I’ll see you next year!

One of my favorite handmade gifts went to my dad and mom (step mom). It was a cross stitch of two bears having a picnic with the word, “I LOVE YOU BEARY MUCH” around them. I found the cross stitch kit on eBay, where I tend to find many of my vintage kits. I actually finished the kit in November and I just needed to cover the back of the hoop with felt, with an embroidered message. With my crazy holiday work schedule I couldn’t mail my parents gift on time. Try working at a place, a movie theatre, which opens every single day. I went into work before the post office opened and got off after it closed. I felt awful when I called them the Saturday before Christmas to let them know I had received their gift and theirs wouldn’t arrive on time for Christmas. They’re my parents and naturally were very understanding. They’ll receive their gifts today! Hopefully, it was worth the wait.

A Star Is Born

Jackie, one of my employees, had her first baby in September. While pregnant, I kept inquiring what nursery themed she was going to have for her baby boy, for baby shower gift ideas. For a while she was playing with the idea of a galaxy theme. No aliens or spaceships though. She liked the idea of planets and stars.

Being a cross-stitch lover, I went on the search  for the perfect cross-stitch kit, with a galaxy theme, on Etsy, Amazon, and ebay. After wish listing many kits, I decided on “A Star Is Born” kit on ebay. The only problem, I would not be able to give Jackie this gift into her baby was born and I didn’t even know the baby’s name. Jackie was being secretive about it.

I couldn’t give Jackie the cross-stitch at her baby shower. I did give her a moon nightlight and a frame, all matching the moon and star theme like the cross-stitch I was working on. At the baby shower, there was a banner revealing Jackie’s baby’s name – Orion Kai. Orion Kai! Like Orion’s Belt! Then it hit me; no wonder she was thinking of a galaxy theme nursery. I showed Jackie my progress on the cross-stitch kit and she liked what she saw so far.

A few days ago, I finished Orion’s cross-stitch baby announcement. I replaced the plastic hoop the kit came with for a wood one I painted in dark blue. I can’t wait to see Jackie’s expression when she sees it. I’m even more excited that this 5-inch hoop will adorn little Orion’s room as he grows.

The Princess Sleeps Here

One of my old co-workers, Josh, who joined the Navy, had a beautiful baby girl named Rileigh. His wife, baby Rileigh, and him came home to visit family and friends, from South Carolina where he is stationed. I got to see Rileigh last week for the first time at a get together the Buetows planned at Red Robin for friends. Not only was I excited to see their beautiful baby girl that looks just like her daddy, I was able to give Rileigh her belated baby shower gift.

The Buetows had mentioned they would visit in July so I had decided not to mail their baby gift, which I knew would take me a long time to complete, especially since I had just started my Phlebotomy class. I also wanted to see their reaction when they opened Rileigh’s gift. While shopping for cross stitch kits last year on eBay, I saw numerous adorable cross stitch kits for babies and said to myself, "I want one to display in my futures baby room one day." While trying to decide on what to get the Buetow for their baby shower, I realized a personalize cross stitch would be perfect. No store bought gift they might get two of, but something made from the heart with love, and lots of patience.

I found a cute cross stitch kit by Dimensions on eBay that says, “The Princess Sleeps Here” with a banner at the bottom to embroider Rileigh’s name. I’ve never done a cross stitch this big, 5” x 7”, and this time consuming. I love the way the words change color like a rainbow, which is what took so much time. All in all, all the time put into the cross stitch was well worth it. I know it will be displayed in Rileigh’s room for many years. I found the crochet flower doll at an antique store called Carriage House. Once I saw the doll, I knew I was meant to find it for Rileigh. The doll’s pedals match the cross stitch perfectly. Embroidering Rileigh’s name on the doll was a given. I love embroidery people’s names on stuffed toys I get for them. When Brettany, Josh’s wife, opened Rileigh’s gift she asked me if Rileigh’s name was already embroidered on it. Her comment made me feel good. Of course, I told her I did it. I’m glad my embroidery skills are decent for her to think it was store bought. The Buetows were very thankful for Rileigh’s homemade gifts. I can’t wait to see pictures of Rileigh when she's big enough to hold her little flower doll.

When it’s my turn to have a little one, I hope someone too makes something as special as I did for Rileigh for my little boy or girl.

Completed Project: Multiplying Hearts Cross Stitch

This "Multiplying Hearts" cross stitch design was my first introduction to cross stitching. I finished it last year and finally had an opportunity to frame it. The kit came with a bright pink plastic frame, which I discarded because it looked cheap. I purchased a wooden hoop frame and painted it black and sealed it. On the back I embroidered “My 1st x-stitch,” my initials, and 11 for 2011.

I’m trying my best to finish projects I started last year. I’ve been making myself daily lists and gradually getting stuff done. I know I have a rug made out of old t-shirt in my closest that needs to be finished. Hopefully, I’ll be able to tackle it this month too.

Welcome Cross Stitchers

I had mentioned in my previous post that I wanted to design a button for people like myself who like to cross-stitch. Here it is…

Creativitylizette

It says, “Cross Stitching Addict.” I hope you like it.

I have been going a little over board buying cross-stitching kits on-line for family gifts. I just truly love cross-stitching. The process relaxes me, especially after a long day at work. I’ve fallen in love with making my cross stitching into wearable jewelry, since I finished making that Creative Circle initial brooch/charm. And since Creative Circle jewelry kits are difficult to find I did discover an awesome tutorial on how to cross stitch a pendant on Craftzine blog. Click here for the tutorial.

I can’t wait to start making my very own cross-stitch pendants but I need to get my family cross-stitching gifts done first.

Cross Stitch Addiction

I just completed my first cross-stitch project! It’s an initial brooch/charm with my initial, L, which I’ve decided to use as a necklace. I purchased the kit on Etsy from Classy Stitches; it is a Creative Circle kit from the 1980’s. The Creative Circle use to be like the Tupperware parties of today, except for buying containers people bought Creative Circle kits and learned how to cross-stitch. How cool is that! Unfortunately, The Creative Circle is no longer in business, but if you would like to read more about them click here.

My kit came with a graph of the entire alphabet for any initial and I also have lots of embroidery floss left over if I want to make another one. I’ll just have to buy another frame. The directions were very easy to follow too. Now, that I’m addicted to cross stitching I need to purchase mild detergent when washing the cloth because it looks like when I washed mine it bleed slighting onto the background.

I can’t wait to start on my next cross-stitch project. I actually want to start a cross-stitch club among the craft blog community. Let me know if you are interested. I will be creating a button for it soon.

Just The Three Of Us

My husband and I rarely get days off together due to his work schedule. I had requested two days off of work but it just happened that my plans for those days fell through and I got to spend much needed family time with my husband and my dog Belle.

On day one off, Belle got her first and much needed fur cut. She looks so much younger with her hair shorter. My husband barbecued hamburgers and sausages and we listen to some good music as we enjoyed our alcoholic beverages, since we didn’t have to work the next day. We finished the night crashing on the couch watching scary movies on Netflicks.

On day two off I became addicted to cross-stitching. My husband declared our last day together off lazy day. He said it was too hot to go anywhere. So, I took out a cross-stitching kit called, “My 1st Stitch” which I purchased at Joann’s fabric and craft store and began to teach myself to cross-stitch. Cross-stitching is the easiest thing ever and you can do it while watching TV without worrying about pricking yourself with the needle. I haven’t even finished my first cross-stitching project and I already purchased two more kits online.

I enjoyed our two days off together very much even if we did just stay at home. I promise my hubby that once a month I would request two days off when he’s home so we can send more quality time together.
