Course of the Force: On The Run

Kristal and I didn’t take our cameras with us when we ran/walked our Course of the Force relay in Santa Monica, on Saturday, July 13th. All the pictures and the video in this post are courtesy of the wonderful and talented Course of the Force staff.

Kristal handed me the lightsaber during the relay.

Let me know if you recognize anyone in the video.

30-Day Selfies Challenge: Day 6 - 11

7/21: Heading to work. My employees said I looked like Beetle Juice in my outfit. Unfortunately, that smile of mine turned outside down by the end of the day and not because of my employees.

7/23: Quality time with Belle in the backyard after a long day at work. She’s always glad to see me. My fireman says Belle looks like the funny-eyed penguin named Private from the movie Madagascar, in this picture.

7/24: I just got home from picking up dinner for my fireman and I. I’m experimenting with reflective surfaces (truck window) for selfies.

7/26: Trying on pants for work at Ross. Oh, the joy!

7/27: Trying on my new Worry Doll/s headband. I love all the festive colors in this picture.

7/28: Watched, “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” and it made me cry four times. Once I laughed and cried at the same time. Great movie!

Course of the Force: Events Leading to Holding the Lightsaber

With the help of family and friends, Kristal and I were able to earn $185 for Make-A-Wish Foundation through our Course of the Force fund site! I was able to make a $70 donation thanks to all the Cinemark Jess Ranch employees that donated their loose change, their recyclables, my fireman who drank lots of beers, and other close friends. I am touched by the teamwork and generosity of my employees who collected recyclables at work for this charity. The bed of my truck was filled with recyclables donated.

You can still make a donation if interested; click here.

Friday, June 13th:
Kristal and I left for Los Angeles the night before our Course of the Force event since we had to meet the next morning at 5:15am at the YouTube Space building to check in. We stopped by Taco Bell for a Piña Colada Freeze (my first one since I don’t eat at fast food places often) before we got onto the freeway on your way to the Holiday Inn by the Los Angeles International Airport, where we would be spending the night. By the way the Piña Colada Freeze was delicious.

From our hotel window you would see the busy city of LA at night.

Saturday, June 14th:
My breakfast on the day of our event included a blueberry bagel, cream cheese, apple juice, and a banana.

I'm wearing my feminine Darth Vader costume and ready to head out. My favorite part of my homemade costume is the thought bubble headband that says, “I Am Your Father.”

A Course of the Force swag bag filled with awesome goodies from sponsors and a lightsaber, which we got for participating in the Course of the Force relay.

Kristal as R2D2 and I as Darth Vader as we wait to get onto the bus that will take us to our spot, where we will wait for a runner to pass us the torch lightsaber.

30-Day Selfies (Self-Portrait) Challenge: Day 4 & 5

7/19: I woke up late because I was up ‘til 3:30 am the night before. It was inventory night at the theater. I barely had time to check my email, favorite blogs, etc and get ready for work. While doing my makeup, I realized I still needed to snap a photo of myself for the day. I pointed the camera to my vanity makeup mirror while applying mascara.

7/18: Morning breakfast. Sipping the milk left from my cereal.

I forgot to mention that the camera I use is an oldie; it’s a Kodak Easy Share C875, 8.0-mega-pixel digit camera. I’m hoping my fireman and I will purchase a new one for our anniversary. Any suggestions?

30-Day Self-Portrait Challenge: Day 1

(Day off and going to run some errands)

You will be seeing a lot of me lately, 30 days of self-portraits of me to be exact. I’m doing a 30-day self-portrait challenge along with the beautiful ladies, Elsie & Emma, behind the blog A Beautiful Mess. Click here for more details.

In this challenge I hope to capture pictures of myself in the daily activities of my life while learning about “lighting, angles, color, composition and posing.” Photography concepts Elsie & Emma learned themselves by taking self-portraits. And, it will be a big plus because my fireman isn’t always around or eager for that matter to take pictures of me for my blog.

I’m looking forward to this challenge and looking back at all the pictures taken.

From All of Us Card: Band-Aid Kit

The next member to leave the Cinemark theater family, where I work, is Hailey. Hailey will be a senior this coming school year and will start her internship at a convalescent home as well. As always, when an employee gives their two weeks notice I try to make a special good-bye card just for them.

Since Hailey’s internship deals with caring for others I decided to make her a Band-Aid kit card. All the employees wrote special messages on pink paper cutout band-aids with colorful markers and some drew fun designs on the back of them. I got the band-aids laminated and put them into a Band-Aid kit I got at the 99 cent store, along with the real Band-Aids inside. On the inside of the lid box I wrote, “Hailey’s Boo Boo Kit. So when you get hurt caring for others” with a picture of a smiling band-aid saying, “I feel better” in a thought bubble, on sticker paper.

Hailey’s coworkers wrote encouraging and special messages on the pink paper band-aids. Only if real band-aids had messages like that, I think people boo boos would feel better soon.

This card is a great idea for an individual graduating from nursing school, a caregiver, a mother of a child who is accident-prone, or even a baby sitter.

Join The Force

On Saturday, July 13, my coworker Kristal and I will be running for Course of the Force marathon to help earn money for Make-A-Wish Foundation. This awesome cause could not make wishes come true is it wasn’t for the caring people (the force) that help support Make-A-Wish.

If you would like to donate to Make-A-Wish or just help spread the word, click here, and include a link to our fundraising page. 100% of the proceeds go to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

This is a Star Wars themed marathon so Kristal and I are making homemade Star Wars costumes with tutus. Kristal will be R2D2 and I will go to the dark side as Darth Vader.

Thanks for your generosity and may the force be with you!
